Giving Back: The Information Technology Disaster Resource Center

Today is #GivingTuesday! For those unfamiliar with the movement, Giving Tuesday refers to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving when folks get a chance to redeem themselves after realizing how much money they spent on Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Despite its cynical origin as a response to consumer culture, Giving Tuesday has resulted in millions of donations around the globe in the six years since its founding.

This year, Right! Systems has gotten involved with a cause that hits close to home here on the West Coast. This Tuesday, we donated to the Information Technology Disaster Resource Center which is currently working hard to connect communities in crisis across the state of California that have been destroyed by the recent wildfires.

The Information Technology Disaster Resource Center (ITDRC) is an elite team of volunteer technology professionals. Founded in 2008, the ITDRC provides communities with necessary technical resources in the aftermath of disaster. This organization is volunteer driven and provides a Disaster Response Team to areas in crisis in the United States within 24 hours of the event.

Disasters, much like the current wildfires across California, often require assistance that exceeds local resources which is where members of the ITDRC are available to help. As these wildfires move closer to containment this week, the IT Disaster Resource Center and its volunteers will be stationed to help with communication services and WiFi throughout the affected communities.
